Together in Faith: collaboration with parents
Working in Partnership with Parents
At St Sebastian's, we believe that parents are the first educators of their children, and that a strong partnership between home, school and parish is essential in nurturing every child's faith, learning and well-being. Inspired by our Catholic values, we are committed to building a welcoming, faith-filled community where families are encouraged to play an active part in the life of our school.
Throughout the year, we provide many opportunities for parents and families to share in their children's learning and faith journey. Families are warmly invited to join us for Class Masses, whole-school Masses, Celebrations of the Word, sacramental preparation, Stay and Pray sessions, celebration assemblies, coffee mornings, and a range of curriculum and community events. These shared experiences strengthen our school community and help children see the importance of faith in everyday life.
By working together, we create a nurturing environment where every child is supported to grow spiritually, academically, socially and emotionally. Guided by the teachings of Christ and keeping Christ at the heart of what we do, we encourage our children to develop in love, knowledge and virtue, becoming confident, compassionate individuals who live out the Gospel values each day.
Together, with God's grace, our partnership between home, school and parish enables every child to flourish and reach their full potential.
Some of the ways we have welcomed parents and families into school this year include:
Class Masses
Whole-school Masses
Class Masses with parish
Celebrations of the Word
Stay and Pray sessions
Celebration assemblies
Sacramental preparation meetings and celebrations
Coffee mornings
Curriculum workshops (Science Cafe) and shared learning opportunities (Maths sessions, History Showcase, DT Showcase)
Special events and community celebrations e.g. summer social, Christmas Fair
This reflects the welcoming, inclusive ethos of St Sebastian's and highlights the many ways families are invited to participate in the faith life and wider community of the school.
St Francis of Assisi Celebration of the Word
In June 2026, parents were invited to participate with classes in Celebration of the Word to mark the Jubilee year of St Francis of Assisi.
Feedback from parents was very positive:
"It reminded me of the importance of kindness, faith, and supporting one another. It was a meaningful and uplifting experience."
"I was impressed by the children’s confidence, enthusiasm, and the respect they showed throughout the Celebration of the Word."
"I was glad to see the children lead and it made me feel valued as a parent."
"How confident the children were, and how all the entire school make sure children are participating and have an opportunity to celebrate these moments together."
