Our School Prayers

Prayer at St. Sebastian's R.C. Primary School

The children have lots of opportunities for time of prayer and reflection throughout their school day.

Lectio Divina

When the children arrive to school in the mornings, they take part in Lectio Divina.

Lectio Divina is a dynamic way of reading the Scriptures. It follows a four-step approach of:

  1. Reading
  2. Meditation
  3. Prayer
  4. Contemplation

Lectio Divina invites the children to listen and reflect over God's words quietly, slowly and intently. It gives them the space to respond to what you feel God is saying and helps them build a vital bridge between their time with God and their everyday life.

The children also take part in weekly meditation sessions.  Meditation is simple, being simple means being themselves.  It brings them to silence and stillness and a chance to be with God in their own time and space.

The Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, Who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

The Morning Offering

Father, we thank you for the night,
and for the pleasant morning light;
for rest and food and loving care,
and all that makes the day so fair.

Help us to do the things we should,
to be to others kind and good;
in all we do, in work or play,
to grow more loving every day.

Grace Before Meals

Bless us O God

As we sit together

Bless the food we eat today

Bless the hands that make the food

Bless us O God

Grace After Meals

Thank you God

For the food we have eaten.

Thank you God

For all my friends.

Thank you God for everything

Thank you God.

Evening Prayer

God our Father, I come to say
thank you for your love today.
Thank you for my family
and all the friends you give to me.
Guard me in the dark of night
and in the morning send your light.

The Glory Be

Glory be to the Father,

and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning,

is now,

and ever shall be,

world without end.

St. Sebastian's Angelus

Leader: The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary

Response: And she conceived by the Holy Spirit

All: Hail Mary...

Leader: Behold the handmaid of the Lord

Response: Be it done unto me according to your word

All: Hail Mary…

Leader: And the word was made flesh

Response: And dwelt among us

All: Hail Mary...

Leader: Let us pray

Pour forth, we beseech you, O Lord, your grace into our hearts: that we to whom the Incarnation of Christ your Son was made known by the message of an angel, may, by his Passion and Cross, be brought to the glory of his resurrection. Through the same Christ Our Lord.

Eternal Rest

Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord,

and let perpetual light shine upon them.

May they rest in peace.

Act of Contrition

O my God, because you are so good,

I am very sorry that I have sinned against you

And with the help of your grace I will not sin again.

I Confess

I confess to almighty God,

and to you,

my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned through my own fault,

in my thoughts and in my words,

in what I have done, and in what I have failed to do;

and I ask blessed Mary,

ever virgin,

all the angels and saints,

and you,

my brothers and sisters,

to pray for me to the Lord our God.
