Welcome to a new school year.
Reading
Reading is invaluable to develop your child’s knowledge of the world, imagination, vocabulary, understanding of punctuation and lots more. It is therefore advisable that they read for twenty minutes at least five evenings. Even though your child is older and may be a fluent reader it is still important that they read to an adult and discuss the themes and characters of the book. Please sign your child’s reading diary at least five times per week. Your child will be allotted a day when their reading journal will be checked.
Spellings
Spellings will be given out on Mondays and tested on Friday. The children will have a set to take home and practise and a set to learn in school. Your child’s spellings will be tailored to their individual needs and should be practised in sentences to ensure the meaning is understood.
Homework
English reading and grammar homework will be set three times per week to consolidate the teaching over the course of the week.
Maths homework will be set by Mr Barry three times per week to consolidate concepts taught that day. It will be expected to be completed for the following session.
Topic homework will be set on Friday to be handed in on the Monday of the following week.
Booster Groups
Children will be invited to booster groups during the year for reading, writing grammar and maths. These will take place in the mornings and after school.
P.E.
P.E. will take place on a Thursday. Please ensure your child has suitable footwear in school - black pumps or trainers.
Our Class Saint
Maximilian Kolbe
Maximilian Kolbe had a vision of Mary when he was 12 years old. In 1928, Maximilian Kolbe was ordained as a priest and continued to promote Mary throughout Poland. He opened a monastery but it was shut down and he was sent to Auschwitz. It was here that Maximilian Kolbe volunteered to die in place of a man with a family.
His feast day is celebrated on 15th August, the same day as the Assumption of Mary.
Booster Groups
The sessions will begin on week commencing the 23rd September and will conclude the week before the Key Stage 2 SATs tests in May. (Tests begin week beginning Monday 11th May 2020).

Bikeability
The children have really enjoyed learning new skills and improving their bicycle control. They have been working hard to complete basic manoeuvres on local roads to achieve their level 2 on-road cycle training course.
